The eyes and brain are closely connected, to the extent that it is said humans gather 80% of information about the outside world through vision. The brain has complex mechanisms governing various functions such as sensitivity, movement, thinking, and decision-making through the five senses. Neuroscience helps us ‘visualize’ these complex mechanisms and functions. Neuroscience technology continues to advance daily, shedding light on areas that remain unclear.

Until now, the evaluation of “visual comfort” has been subjective, based on observation. In collaboration with the National Institute of Physiological Sciences and the National Institute of Natural Sciences—institutions conducting the world’s most advanced neuroscience research—we conducted fundamental research on how the brain perceives vision when wearing contact lenses. We have improved the “visual comfort” of contact lenses by continuously assessing and monitoring it using the latest neuroscience, feeding this information back into contact lens design.

Using data measured by electroencephalography (EEG), lenses are designed through a unique method and compared with conventional products. After more than 10 years of development incorporating neuroscience technology, the multifocal lens “Neuro Select” has evolved over time. As global life expectancy increases, “visual life” and “visual ability” must be regarded as an even more important part of living. The rapid advancement of neuroscience technology and ophthalmic lenses together will undoubtedly lead our lives toward a more comfortable and safer future.
