What Is Presbyopia (Age-Related Farsightedness)?

Also known as “age-related farsightedness,” presbyopia is the difficulty seeing objects up close.

This condition results from a decline in the eye’s focusing ability, or “accommodation.”

Age-related farsightedness occurs due to a gradual loss of focusing function caused by weakening of the ciliary muscles or hardening of the lens.

Everyone over 40 begins to experience this natural aging effect.

Although the degree of presbyopia varies depending on whether a person is nearsighted, farsighted, or astigmatic, everyone eventually develops age-related farsightedness.
