What is Essilor Eyezen? Does it help with eye strain when looking at screens?

Explanation of Essilor Eyezen (supports near–intermediate vision for office workers): mechanism, who should consider it, how it differs from regular single vision lenses, and the combination with Crizal coating — not a substitute for eye exams.

Essilor Eyezen is a lens line positioned for people who look near and at intermediate distances frequently throughout the day — typically at computers 50–70 cm, phones, tablets. Unlike single vision lenses that optimize a primary viewing distance (usually far), Eyezen (depending on the generation/variant on the prescription) can integrate a support zone to help ease the transition from screen to documents on the desk — not a medication, not a substitute for taking breaks, and not a solution for dry eyes or pathologies. Read more in the Essilor review, choosing glasses for office workers.
In summary: Eyezen is worth considering if you experience eye strain in the afternoon while working on numbers/code for long periods, do not want progressive lenses, and the single vision allows for a boost in near–intermediate vision. Those with clear ADD for reading or over 40 with multiple viewing distances may benefit from multifocal lenses or separate near glasses — the optician needs to decide.

Eyezen is often mentioned when...

  • Working on screens for 6–10+ hours/day, or experiencing eye strain at the end of the day.
  • Wanting near/intermediate vision to be more comfortable compared to pure distance single vision lenses.
  • Wanting to combine with Crizal (AR, anti-smudge...) — see Crizal Rock.
  • Cannot replace an eye exam if experiencing blurred vision, headaches, or double vision.

How does it differ from regular single vision lenses?

Standard single vision lenses optimize one point (far or near as per prescription). If your prescription is for full distance but you are fixating on a laptop closer, your eyes have to work harder — Eyezen aims to reduce that strain with optical design (details according to the correct lens code). It is not like reading glasses +2.50 alone; it also does not equate to progressive if you need a wide near zone for presbyopia.

Does Eyezen provide “strong blue light protection”?

Not automatically. Eyezen is a lens line; blue light filtering (if any) comes from the coating/option included. If you need blue cut, ask about the filter level and tint — see choosing blue light blocking glasses, 0 degree blue light blocking glasses.

Who should and should not have high expectations?

Should try when symptoms are strain from prolonged near/intermediate vision and ergonomics have been adjusted. Do not expect to eliminate dry eyes if you blink less, or if air conditioning blows directly at your face — you need artificial tears or an exam as directed. Do not use Eyezen to compensate for uncorrected myopia; please get your eyes checked.

Working combination: distance, brightness, font

Before spending money on lenses, apply the screen viewing distance, the 20-20-20 rule, and reduce brightness at night. Lenses are only one part of the system.

Eyezen vs multifocal (Varilux) vs computer glasses

  • Eyezen: targets near–intermediate vision for office workers, often easier to adapt than progressive lenses.
  • Varilux/progressive: when clear far–intermediate–near vision is needed with ADDVarilux, two lenses or multifocal.
  • Office/occupational: when viewing distance is fixed — ask the optician if you only look at one distance all day.

What should be noted on the prescription?

Full name of Eyezen, index, Crizal coating (if any), warranty. Two places reporting “Eyezen” may have different prices if the coating and blank differ — see mistakes when ordering glasses online.

Can children and teenagers use Eyezen?

Usually prioritize the correct prescription, habits, outdoor activities — do not automatically upgrade to “office” lenses if not needed. See children with myopia.

Try in-store

If there is a demo, look at the phone + laptop screen for a few minutes compared to the old prescription — the feeling of less strain must be experienced, not just described.

Eyezen and age: when is it “not presbyopic” but already strained?

Many people aged 30–45 still see far well but feel strained when using spreadsheets — Eyezen can be a middle step before moving to clear ADD for reading newspapers. Conversely, if you already hold a book far away to read, you may already be presbyopic — need to measure ADD instead of just Eyezen.

Do students/young people online a lot fit?

Depends on the prescription: if myopia is not sufficient or not wearing glasses, prioritize measuring and the correct single vision first. Eyezen does not replace myopia control or outdoor habits — see myopia control.

Working with two screens and neck posture

Eyezen supports optics, but if you twist your neck between two monitors that are not aligned, muscle strain can still occur. Adjust the height of the screen, chair, keyboard.

Gaming and perceptual delay

Gamers playing FPS may be sensitive to slight distortion or viewing areas — ask the optician if the Eyezen line fits your FOV or not. There are no general rules; testing is best.

Combining anti-fatigue options on the market

Eyezen is an Essilor brand; other brands have similar office/relax options. When comparing prices, compare full names + coatings — see comparing Essilor Zeiss Rodenstock.

Warranty and adaptation

Some stores have a return policy if not adapting within X days for special lenses — ask in advance; related to return policy.

FAQ

“Does Eyezen increase myopia?”No mechanism “Eyezen causes myopia”; reducing strain may help you wear glasses correctly. “Can I drive with it?” — Usually yes if the prescription allows for sufficient distance vision; ask the optician if you drive at night often — may need AR. “Eyezen vs 0 degree blue light blocking glasses?” — Very different: Eyezen usually has power and designated viewing areas0 degree glasses.

Index and edge thickness

Eyezen still follows physical lens principles: high myopia on large frames will still be thick if a low index is chosen. Ask about 1.60 / 1.67 when needed — materials.

Working late at night: Eyezen does not replace screen brightness

Night mode reduces blue light and glare; Eyezen does not automatically manage ambient light. Combine both if needed.

Bring hospital prescriptions to cut Eyezen

Prescriptions only for distance vision may not be sufficient to optimize Eyezen — the optician may measure additional working distances — see bringing hospital prescriptions.
